PCI / CISP Data Security Standards and Web.com
The credit card industry has established strict security standards in regards to credit card processing.
These new standards, CISP and PCI, are being adopted by all major credit card companies when handling
credit card transactions.
If you own a business and do not currently meet the criteria established, you could lose your ability to
process credit card payments through your website.
Web.com’s Shopping Cart product is fully compliant based on the CISP and PCI security standards set forth
by the industry standards. All sensitive financial data and information we receive is handled in such a way
that it meets or exceeds the requirements of Visa’s PCI & CISP programs. We are also proud to say that the
Web.com Shopping Cart product has been CISP/PCI fully certified since 2005 and we are one of the very few
companies with that designation.

Visa’s CISP – Cardholder Information Security Program
The Cardholder Information Security Program developed by Visa outlines security standards for businesses
that process, transmit and store cardholder information for Visa customers. The program requires that
compliance standards be met by the merchant as well as maintained on an ongoing basis.
The ongoing validation is to ensure that security is maintained at the highest levels and that any potential
susceptibility to security risks is identified and corrected by the merchant.

PCI- The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard
Endorsed by every major credit card provider throughout the United States, the PCI, Payment Card Industry
Data Security Standard, is a requirement of the Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP). It was
developed as a result of a partnership with Visa and Mastercard in an effort to clearly define a series of
best practices in regards to processing, transmitting and storing credit card information.

The Importance of CISP/PCI Certification
Visa/Mastercard will be taking action against all companies who are processing credit card transactions but are
not CISP/PCI certified. If you have a business relationship with a company that is not currently compliant, they
will be forced to comply or risk being shut down by credit card providers. Your profits may be affected if your
providers do not get the proper certifications!
